Decorating a Christmas tree is something many people look forward to every year. Adding ribbon makes a big difference, even if you do not add many ornaments. Ribbon helps fill empty spaces and makes the tree feel finished.
You do not need to be creative or artistic to do this. Anyone can decorate a tree with ribbon if they take it step by step.
Choose a Ribbon First
Pick a ribbon you actually like. That matters more than trends. Wide ribbon works better than thin ribbon because it shows up between the branches. Wired ribbon is easier to shape, but normal ribbon also works.
Choose a color that fits your decorations. Red, gold, silver, white, or even plaid are common. Some people like burlap for a simple look. Others prefer satin or velvet. There is no rule here.
Prepare the Tree
Before using ribbon, fluff the tree. Spread the branches and fix empty areas. This step takes time, but it makes everything else easier.
Put the lights on next. Turn them on and check how they look. Fix dark spots now. Ribbon should be added after lights and before ornaments.
Cut the ribbon into a few medium pieces. Very long ribbon can get messy and hard to control.
Add the Ribbon From the Top
Start at the top of the tree. Push the end of the ribbon deep inside the branches so it does not show.
Let the ribbon fall down slowly. Do not pull it tight. Let it bend and curve on its own. Push some parts in and pull some parts out. This helps the ribbon blend into the tree instead of sitting on top.
Move around the tree and repeat until it looks balanced.
Easy Ribbon Styles
You do not need to copy pictures exactly. Keep it simple.
Straight Down
Let the ribbon fall straight down in loose curves. This is the easiest style.
Around the Tree
Wrap the ribbon around the tree gently. Do not pull it tight.
Two Ribbons
If you like, add a second ribbon in another color. Place it between the first one. Stop when it looks full.
Add Ornaments Last
Once the ribbon looks good, add ornaments. Start with the bigger ones. Place them a little deeper into the tree. Smaller ornaments can go near the ends of branches.
Try not to cover the ribbon completely. Ribbon looks best when you can still see it.
Final Touches
Step back and look at the tree. Fix any ribbon that looks flat. Fill empty spots with small ornaments or bows.
Do not worry about perfection. A Christmas tree is meant to feel warm and personal, not perfect.
